Foodstory Cookin: Hermon’s Collard Greens

Dear friends,

I am excited to extend an invitation to you for a unique and joy filled collaborative cooking experience - the Foodstory Cookin! This event is intended to bring together a community of passionate individuals who share a love for cooking, storytelling, and a desire to explore the rich histories behind the ingredients we use in our favorite recipes.

How it Works:

1. Monthly Ingredients: Before each event, we will send out a curated list of ingredients, carefully chosen to inspire a diverse range of recipes. This allows you to gather the necessary items ahead of time.

2. Cook Together on Zoom: On the event day, we will convene on Zoom to cook together in real-time. This virtual cooking session offers a unique opportunity to share techniques, tips, and, most importantly, the joy of preparing a meal in the company of others.

3. Stories Behind the Ingredients: As we cook, we'll delve into the fascinating histories of the ingredients we are using. From the origins of spices to the cultural significance of certain vegetables, the aim is to deepen our understanding of the connection between food and culture. That day’s food facilitator will also come wear the hat of food educator.

4. Share Your Foodstory: In addition to exploring the history of ingredients, participants are encouraged to share personal stories and memories associated with the recipes. Whether it's a family tradition, a cherished childhood dish, or a recent culinary discovery, every participant's unique Foodstory adds flavor to our collective experience.

Purpose:

The Foodstory Cookin is not just about cooking; it's about cultivating a mindful relationship with food as medicine. Honoring the source elements and labor by taking the time to understand the stories behind the ingredients fosters a deeper appreciation for the nourishment they provide. This event aims to create a sense of community through cultivation of mindful awareness that turns the practice of cooking into an alchemical ritual deeply rooted in love.
